SUMMIT 2011 “Engage the Change”

The fifth-annual conference, held for the first time in Asia, attracted a record number of executives (275) from 35 nations. Under the 2011 banner of “Engage the Change: The Customer. The Money. The Future,” delegates explored smart new ways to engage with consumers; enter new markets; embrace new technologies; implement new business, tourism and wellness concepts; and pursue new investments. A highlight of the 2011 Summit was the unveiling of the world’s first online portal dedicated to the medical evidence that exists for 22 spa and wellness therapies: www.spaevidence.com.

SUMMIT 2010 “Bridges Worth Building”

The 2010 Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey was “sold out,” attracting more top-level executives, from more nations (40), than in its four year history. Across the threeday conference, delegates were immersed in dozens of panels and presentations tackling critical industry issues and emerging opportunities for the worldwide spa and wellness sectors. And while research is a centerpiece of every Summit, the depth and diversity of research released in 2010 was unparalleled.

The third-annual Global Spa Summit, held in Interlaken, Switzerland at the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa was attended by delegates from a record 32 nations.  The 2009 Summit featured keynote presentations by Dr. Adolf Ogi, the former president of Switzerland and United Nation’s Special Advisor, and Reto Wittwer, the president and CEO of Kempinksi Hotels, along with roundtable discussions on topics ranging from profit margins, to the value of hydro and thermal spa experiences, to spa design of the future.

SUMMIT 2008 "ADVANCING THE GLOBAL SPA ECONOMY"

The 2008 Global Spa Summit built on the work that began at the 2007 inaugural gathering, where top concerns included an industry-wide skilled labor shortage, the lack of agreed-upon benchmarking, and the need for environmental leadership. These issues surfaced once again; however, delegates indicated that the skilled labor shortage problem has escalated. Keynote addresses by hotel visionary Ian Schrager and Dr. Richard Carmona, 17th surgeon general of the United States, provided the delegates with powerful calls to action, encouraging the industry to invest further in the areas of creative design and preventive medicine. A pinnacle of the 2008 Summit included the presentation of the first ever Global Spa Economy report, conducted by SRI International, which estimated the global spa economy at $255 billion.

SUMMIT 2007 "JOINING TOGETHER. SHAPING THE FUTURE."

The inaugural meeting of the Global Spa Summit was an historic gathering. The three day, invitation-only event, held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, brought together leaders from the global spa, real estate, investment, travel, spa education, beauty, and wellness sectors to chart the future of the booming $40 billion plus spa industry, which has seen double-digit growth for the past 20 years. The Summit featured keynote addresses by three of the leading visionaries in the spa and wellness industry: Steve Case, whose Revolution LLC is leading innovation in the health care, wellness, and resort industries; Kevin Kelly, president of Canyon Ranch, an international wellness lifestyle company; and Susan Harmsworth, founder and CEO of British-based ESPA International, which designs and operates spas in over 50 countries throughout the world.
